After the initial success in Pacific Asian market, the 2019 Toyota Fortuner could spread its sales network to North America. Well, release in the US is what we want, but won’t get in 2019. Instead, the mid-size SUV could head to Canada. In the beginning, the Fortuner was a crossover built for the Philippines, but soon it was available in few other countries. The second generation was welcome by Australian and Russian fans.
We still expect news about other countries where the 2019 Toyota Fortuner is going to appear. Until then we will try to find out what does the company prepares for the next model. Since the second generation came in 2015, it is still no time for a big redesign. Instead, Toyota could opt for a facelift and breath some additions to this favorite Eastern Asian SUV.
2019 Toyota Fortuner Powertrain
Under the bonnet of the 2019 Toyota Fortuner will be the same engine lineup as before. Well, there are varieties of drivetrains, so most fans will be happy to see the old squad back. The Fortuner has both petrol and diesel units. Furthermore, there are options for both ranges. But, not all engines are present in all countries. So, let’s start with diesel lineup.
2019 Toyota Fortuner Diesel Engine Specs
The smallest powertrain is a 2.4-liter inline-four that produces 150 horses. Diesel engines are well-known for its high torque output, and in this case, the 2019 Toyota Fortuner will be able to deliver 250 lb-ft with a manual transmission or 300 pound-feet with automatic. A boost of 30 hp comes with a 2.8-liter Duramax engine. This mill also creates 310 or 330 lb-ft of torque. Common-rail 3.0-l diesel drivetrain comes with a better fuel economy, but fewer horses under the hood. The last one is naturally-aspirated diesel engine with an output of just 95 hp.
There are two gasoline engines ready for 2019 Toyota Fortuner as well. A 2.7-liter four-pot is the base one and delivers 160 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Higher-end models will get a 4.0-liter V-6 with direct injection system and 280 horses. Petrol engines are using either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto transmission. For diesel units, we can get a 5-speed gearbox for two 3.0-liter mills.
2019 Toyota Fortuner Facelift and Changes
After four years, the upcoming Toyota Fortuner will see the first bigger changes. The SUV is based on the Toyota Hilux. So, modifications on the truck will lead to updates on the crossover. However, we still can’t claim exact details, since designers of this company are always full of surprise. For example, the last Fortuner borrowed DRLs from Toyota Corolla. This time, it could be Hilux, or any other sibling heading into a new generation.
2019 Toyota Fortuner Release Date
The newest Toyota Fortuner is heading into the same markets as before. However, the company will spread this model to Canada to test market over there. Appearance in the USA is not possible since the carmaker already had representatives there. Also, engine lineup can’t meet standards and demands of the US laws for emissions. Finally, the 2019 Toyota Fortuner will re-appear in South Africa. In its first generation, the SUV was pretty popular over there, so there is not the reason for doubts in its triumph again.
