Toyota is updating the off-road capabilities of its SUVs. The new TRD Pro package will be ready for 2020 Toyota 4Runner. Legendary Land Cruiser could get it as well. The changes for the new model are not only in its most interesting trim level. Base units will also suffer some modifications. The engine room can also expect some major changes. But, for diesel and hybrid engines we can’t hear info from trusted sources.
A mid-size SUV will have a great competition is an upcoming season. First, Ford is bringing back its legendary Bronco. According to the latest info, this will be an off-road oriented model. Also, FCA will put Dodge Durango onto the body-on-frame platform. With it, the SUV will be more capable of off-roading. The FCA also prepares new Jeep Wrangler, which is, although smaller, another competitor.
2020 Toyota 4Runner Specs
Under the hood of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner will be a 4.0-liter V-6 engine. The huge block is capable to deliver 270 horsepower. Engineers have no intention to move on a V8 since a V6 provides a great base for off-road tuning. Well, the TRD packages are proving that. The downside of the SUV is its fuel economy. But, that could radically change for the next-gen 4Runner.
Rumors about the hybrid drivetrain for the 4Runner are there for a while. Toyota already has a few other crossovers and SUVs in this segment, so it is not a surprise why people are talking about this. After Highlander, another mid-size SUV will get its hybrid drivetrain if 2020 Toyota 4Runner gets such version.
It is also possible the 2020 Toyota 4Runner will move to another direction. Instead, to be greener, the SUV could be more powerful. Also, its off-road performance would get a huge boost, and fuel economy as well. On the other hand, diesel models’ sales are still affected by a big scandal that hit VW and Audi. So, buyers are aware and the Toyota 4Runner diesel is the unlikeliest option of all.
2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is going to get a TRD Pro package, that is for sure. But, we will see which parts engineers will upgrade now. Besides this SUV, only two trucks, Tundra and Tacoma, are offering such a set of features. Well, accessories are adjusted to each of these models. After 4Runner, another Toyota’s SUV could get it. Rumors are saying that could be either Land Cruiser, Sequoia, or even Rav4. Some crossovers and SUVs can offer other trim levels that include TRD elements, but Pro is the most valuable of all.
2020 Toyota 4Runner Release Date
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner could also start a new generation. But, we still don’t have clear info about it. There are no spy photos to confirm those claims. Until it becomes official, we will believe the 2020 4Runner will come in the second half of next season. The pricing will be unknown by then, but the SUV is going to increase the starting value. However, this model is not going to cost over $37,000.
